Experience unmatched warmth and lightness with our exceptional down insulation. With a Fill Power of 700, our down exceeds the most demanding industry standards, guaranteeing superior volume and insulation.
The secret lies in its ingenious physics: down fibers trap air bubbles and the greater their expansion, the greater their insulating effectiveness. Our down can be compressed up to 300 times its original volume, resulting in garments that are incredibly warm, incredibly light, and built to last.
To complement this premium down, we use ultralight fabrics such as 20 denier nylon taffeta, weighing just 40 g/m². This combination creates garments that are not only exceptionally warm, but also incredibly light and easy to pack.
OUR HISTORY
More than 30 years ago, Makalu was born from the purest love of the mountains. Not as a company, but as the dream of a mountaineer who, unable to find the perfect equipment for his adventures, decided to create it with his own hands. Thus, a sleeping bag and a backpack were the first pieces of a legacy forged with soul and dedication.
Makalu's journey began with a simple act of recognition: an ice climbing instructor was captivated by the quality of that first sleeping bag, and upon purchasing it, not only was a sale made, but a purpose was born. From that moment on, every garment, every piece of equipment, was designed with the same passion, the same certainty that they would be a refuge and support in the immensity of nature.
The brand's founder continues to lead the design team, because more than a manufacturer, he's a practitioner. He understands what it feels like to brave icy winds or celebrate a summit, and that genuine connection is felt in every seam and every detail.
For us, the Andes and Patagonia are much more than a stunning landscape; they are our living laboratory, our source of inspiration, and the hallmark of our authenticity. The peaks over 6,500 meters and the challenging climbing routes are our practice grounds, where we grew, perfected each piece, and forged a legacy of quality.
